L'impossible retour à Fukushima

Le 11 mars 2011, Fukushima, «l’île de la bonne fortune», perdait sa bonne étoile. L’enchaînement des catastrophes, naturelles puis nucléaire, ruinait cette terre pourtant fertile. Elle qui nourrissait les 13,3 millions de Tokyoïtes, qui leur apportait poissons et légumes, elle qui les alimentait en électricité cessait immédiatement de les approvisionner. En cette année 2014, le processus de destruction suit inexorablement son cours malgré la mobilisation de milliers d’ouvriers pour arrêter les fuites radioactives.

Quatre cents tonnes d’eau contaminée sont aussi déversées quotidiennement dans l’océan Pacifique, polluant l’écosystème aquatique pour les siècles à venir. Le gouvernement a investi 11 milliards d’euros dans la décontamination. Une tâche titanesque qui concerne 29 millions de m³de terre radioactive, amassée dans des sacs plastiques et stockée au bord des routes et dans les champs.

Et les populations? Elles sont touchées bien au-delà du périmètre évacué des 20 km autour de la centrale et vivent aujourd’hui dans une radioactivité qui oscille entre 5 et 20 millisieverts (mSv) par an, soit l’équivalent de la limite annuelle d’exposition d’un travailleur nucléaire en France. Les enfants ne sont bien sûr pas épargnés.

After earning an engineering degree in 2001, he began to consider photography as a means of expression during his numerous trips abroad. Following in the footsteps of Raymond Depardon, he discovered the photography of wandering. A first trip to Japan in 2005 and it was love at first sight with the country. Gradually, he chose to dedicate his life to photography. His first self-produced report, created over a year, depicts the daily life of very young Afghan migrants in Paris; it was published in several newspapers, including Le Monde. Driven by the desire to discover a new culture and a different way of life, Jérémie moved to Japan in 2009. From Tokyo, he fulfills assignments from major international press titles: The Guardian, Elle, Businessweek, Télérama, Libération, etc. Whether for documentary work, portraits, or architecture, his approach is always centered on the human being, akin to his major influences, which include filmmakers Yasujiro Ozu, Hou Hsiao Hsien, and Edward Yang. In 2014, he published his first book: ‘tokyo no ie’ (houses of Tokyo).
