1. THE UNIVERSE OF SEPT

What is the universe of Sept?
The universe of Sept consists of a website (www.sept.info) that publishes at least one new and original story every week, a quarterly magazine (Sept mook) that features the best stories from the website in a completely innovative format, books of real literature, and audio formats.

Why the name, Sept?
Due to a number of historical, physical, esoteric, and mathematical coincidences, the number seven is sometimes considered a "magic number." It symbolizes spirit, absolute, knowledge, analysis, research, inner life, originality... To us, it symbolizes our stance and objectives in the media space: seekers in pursuit of knowledge and truth. It is also the number of humanity and perfectly aligns with our desire for humanistic journalism, at human level and useful to humanity.

What is the origin of Sept?
Sept was born from the meeting in 2013 of Damien Piller, a business lawyer, and Patrick Vallélian, a senior reporter. The former gave the latter carte blanche to create an innovative and unique web media that bets on both the internet and print. Sept was launched in Fribourg in April 2014.

Why this idea?
Many talk about a media crisis. At Sept, we think the opposite, that the storm shaking journalism does not diminish your interest in authentic journalism, your passion for storytellers like us. Faced with the current information overload, we are betting on a media that takes its time, a media useful to its readers to whom we offer a different vision of the world.

Why do you claim your Swissness?
Because we are 100% Swiss made, 100% developed at the foot of the Alps, 100% an information laboratory, 100% neutral, 100% demanding, 100% committed. We have no hidden agenda. We do not defend any national, private, or public interest.

Are you independent?
Totally. We do not belong to any major press group. Our legal structure is transparent. This freedom allows us to focus on topics that are off the radar.

What is your economic model?
We have always believed that small streams make big rivers. At Sept, our sources of income are diverse. In addition to subscriptions and advertising in our mook, we organize events, training, particularly on investigation, and photography and writing contests. We also sell our mook in kiosks and bookstores, mainly in Switzerland.

What is your economic goal?
We achieved financial balance in 2019. As for our profits, they are reinvested in journalism. We have created for this purpose the photo prize for those under 30 and the reportage comic prize.

Who are the partners on your website?
These partners support our independence either as advertisers of Sept mook or by concretely helping us carry out certain projects like our support prizes.

Why advertising in Sept mook and not on your site sept.info?
We believe that advertising has no place on a paid site. Except for institutional advertising and subscription offers for www.sept.info. However, and we fully assume this, we have decided to make very specific spaces available to advertisers in our mook. This allows us to sell it at an attractive price of 30 francs.

Who is Sept?
Sept is a competent and passionate team: journalists of course, but also web developers, graphic designers, photographers, illustrators... It is also about a hundred authors and photographers who work with us across the planet.

What is your editorial line?
The only editorial line that interests us is that of Albert Londres or Nicolas Bouvier. The one that takes us on the byways of information, far from news often dictated by the agendas of companies, politicians or terrorists, and especially by news items and the audience of emotion. The one of originality, depth, quality of perspective, public interest, difference, courage. The one of slow journalism and real literature.

What is slow journalism?
This form of storytelling is also called literary reportage or narrative journalism... So many words to talk about old-fashioned journalism that takes its readers seriously, that does not entertain them, but informs them. Quite simply. In this sense, it is very committed journalism, without being militant. In our stories, we dare the "I", the description, the long texts, the side steps, the byways... Our authors go to the field, put themselves on stage, in danger. They investigate. Are curious, attentive. They do not settle for expert opinions or a few phone calls to complete their subject. It is a demanding, time-consuming, expensive stop on image, a total journalism. Without compromise. Without limit. We also offer the luxury of space, time, immersion through words, images, videos, sounds, drawings, comics...

How does Sept differ from other Swiss media?
Sept is the first 100% independent media, 100% without invasive advertising, 100% narrative to offer you the best of Swiss journalism. We have already been awarded and nominated several times. In 2016, we were notably a finalist for the Albert Londres prize and winner of the Nicolas Bouvier prize. It fits well, as they are precisely two of our favorite authors.

Why are our stories paid?
When it's free on the net, you are the product! Free is destructive of value and creates no profitability. It therefore does not allow offering decent salaries to our authors and partners. And without them, no quality journalism. The paid model is also a guarantee of independence. With the purchase of a single subscription, you have access to more than 1,500 original and unpublished stories and to two media: our website sept.info and our quarterly Sept mook. We therefore count on your support whether in the form of a subscription, the purchase of a single article at the price you want, the purchase of a mook in PDF or on paper or a donation.

2. GETTING TO KNOW OUR SITE SEPT.INFO

How to subscribe to sept.info?
Click on the "Subscriptions" tab at the top right of the menu bar on our website sept.info and choose the plan that suits you. In case of any issues, you can write to us at [email protected].

What happens with my data?
The personal data of Sept subscribers is not transmitted to any third party.

How to read sept.info articles on my mobile?
You need to use one of your phone's internet browsers and type the address www.sept.info then log in with your username and password.

How to buy a single article?
If you like an article and you are not subscribed, you can buy it individually on our website. At the end of the article, this box appears: "The rest of this story is paid." Click on the "I log in" button in the "buy this article" box. Log in or create an account by simply entering your email and the password you have chosen. Buy the article by indicating the price you want (starting from two francs).

Can I pay in a currency other than Swiss francs?
Yes, the amount will be automatically converted into Swiss francs.

How long do the stories I buy individually belong to me?
Eternally.

What payment methods do we accept?
We prefer credit card payments. The security of transactions is ensured by the web payment platform Stripe, PCI certified, level 1, the highest security level.

Why do I have to re-enter my credit card information each time?
For reasons of respecting your privacy and security, we do not store your credit card information.

3. SEPT MOOK

What is the relationship between sept.info and Sept mook?
The same team produces the content for the sept.info site and Sept mook. Our editorial team was the first in Switzerland to test the web first model. In good French, this means that our stories are published online first on our site before being selected, or not, to be published in our magazine.

How to get Sept mook?
On our site sept.info, click on the "Shop" tab at the top right of the menu bar. You will find all the issues of Sept mook for sale individually. You can buy them either in PDF format or in paper format. Once you have made your choice, click on "buy" then fill in the customer, delivery, and payment information. You can also buy Sept mook individually in all good bookstores and kiosks in Switzerland, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and Canada or take out a subscription to receive it directly in your mailbox.

What does "mook" mean?
The word "mook" is composed of two Anglo-Saxon words, magazine and book. A word that perfectly fits our content favoring long-form reports and in-depth investigations, texts illustrated by drawings and photographs, and treatment also through comics.

What does an "augmented mook" mean?
Sept mook is the first mook in its category to create multimedia narratives thanks to our augmented reality reader, another innovation developed by our team. Augmented reality allows us to offer you other content than those on the site and paper. It is always unique added value. Another way to dive into our stories. To immerse yourself in reality. In your time. A unique experience.

How to access "augmented" content?
Thanks to our augmented reality reader. To do this, download the Sept app for free on App Store or Google Play. Launch the app and scan the page as soon as you see the Sept icon, the additional content starts immediately or interactive buttons appear highlighted waiting for your clicks.

4. SEPT SUBSCRIPTIONS

What are the different subscription plans for Sept?
Our subscriptions are either monthly, annual, or biennial and give you unlimited access to our website sept.info.

• The monthly Digital subscription: it is without commitment and is automatically renewed at the end. Its price is 7 Swiss francs per month and payment is made only by direct debit. Each started month is due.
• The annual Digital subscription: its price is 77 Swiss francs and it commits you for a year. It is automatically renewed at the end.
• The Premium subscription (1 year or 2 years): in addition to unlimited access to sept.info, this plan includes the sending and receiving at home of 4 or 8 issues of Sept mook, our quarterly magazine that features the best stories from sept.info. Its price is 169 Swiss francs for 1 year or 279 Swiss francs for 2 years.

What is the most advantageous subscription?
The biennial Premium offer is the most advantageous. It costs you only 139.50 francs per year and at this price, you benefit from unlimited access to more than 1,500 original and unpublished stories, and you receive at home twelve issues of Sept mook.

What are the benefits for subscribers?
• As a Sept subscriber, you benefit from a discount on any gift subscription offered. The one-year Premium subscription (unlimited access to the site + 4 Sept mooks delivered to your home) will only cost you 99 francs instead of 169 francs. To take advantage of this, it's very simple: just write to us at [email protected] and provide us with the complete details (email, phone number, and postal address) of the recipient(s). We will then create the desired subscription(s) for you before sending you an invoice by email or mail to your home. You can also save time by transferring the amount due to our bank account IBAN CH 65 0076 8300 1335 6120 0. We will then inform the recipient(s) by email and activate the subscription(s) on the date you provide us.
• As a Sept subscriber, you can buy the issues of our mooks missing from your collection with a 30% discount. The list is available on our online store https://www.sept.info/boutique. Just send us an email at [email protected] with the desired issue(s) and we will send them to you free of charge.
• You can spread the word about us. Just send us an email at [email protected] providing the first name, last name, postal address, and email of the person you wish to offer a copy of Sept mook to, and we will send them one of our issues free of charge with a subscription offer.

What does "unlimited access" to sept.info mean?
The monthly and annual offers allow you to access all the content published on the site wherever you are and whenever you want.

Do we accept other payment methods than credit cards?
Yes. We also accept payments by payment slip for Switzerland that we are happy to send to you at home by mail with an invoice to be paid within 30 days of the subscription creation. For subscribers outside Switzerland, you can also pay your subscription by bank transfer using our IBAN number: CH 65 0076 8300 1335 6120 0.

How can I manage my subscription?
Under the "My Account" tab, you can manage your subscription and update your personal information at any time. You will find your login email, your history, your invoices, and your delivery and payment information there.

How to change my password?
The access codes to sept.info are your email and password. If you want to change your password, you need to go to the "My Account" tab and click on "change my password." You will then receive an email that will allow you to reset your password. If you want to change your email, you must either write to us at [email protected]. We will confirm the change.

How to update my bank card?
When your bank card expires, you automatically receive a message from us indicating this. Here is how to update your bank details if you have received a new card or if you have changed accounts:

1.- Log in with your credentials and click on "My Account"
2.- Then click on "Edit" at the top right or on "Change my subscription plan" in the middle at the bottom.
3.- Click on "Information on your payment method" and modify your data.

How to unsubscribe?
To terminate your subscription, you can either write to us at [email protected] indicating your subscription information. You can also click on the "My Account" tab at the top right of the menu bar on our website sept.info, then click on "edit" and "cancel this subscription."

How to subscribe/unsubscribe from newsletters?
Our newsletter service is intended for all people with a personal account on sept.info. If you no longer wish to receive our newsletters, simply click on "unsubscribe from this newsletter" in the box at the bottom of each of our mailings

How can I stay informed about Sept news?
Simply subscribe to our newsletters as well as our facebook, twitter, or instagram feeds.

How to make a donation?
Sept is a young media. And although ambitious, willing, and professional, it remains fragile. Especially since unlike many new journalistic projects, Sept does not believe in volunteering. We pay our internal and external collaborators. We therefore need all the goodwill.
